The NUS National Conference is a key decision-making body within the NUS. It brings together delegates from students' unions affiliated to NUS UK to discuss, debate and vote on motions.

GKSU have one place to send a Medway student to attend and represent your Medway student community.

At the conference there is going to be a big focus on the next steps of the #DecoloniseEducation and #StudentsDeserveBetter campaigns.

WHEN IS THE NUS CONFERENCE IN 2021?

The event will take place virtually this year and is scheduled for 6th - 8th April 2021. Delegates will be expected to attend the whole conference.

WHAT IS NUS?

In the fight for student issues, there is one place to turn. The National Union of Students is a membership organisation that aims to represent students at a national level. Student involvement is key and many Universities and Colleges Students' Unions are members of this organisation. They have elected officers and a staff team who work together to support students.

Take a look at the NUS website to find out a bit more about NUS.

WHAT IS THE ROLE?

At Medway, we have one position for an NUS Conference Delegate to send to the National Conference.

It’s a really important role because they represent Medway students at a national level. As an NUS Delegate, you will discuss and debate issues that matter to students; you can submit motions to change things for the better and ensure the views of Medway students are heard loud and clear on a national scale.

The role of an NUS Delegate is three-fold; they vote on policy, in elections and on reports. For more information about being a delegate at NUS National Conference go to the NUS Connect website.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL I HAVE TO COMMIT TO THE ROLE?

As an NUS Delegate, you will put time aside to speak to students to obtain feedback on motions put to conference.  This is largely done by talking to students in your day to day academic life.

In addition, the amount of time a NUS Delegate will have to commit to their role varies according to whether they intend to submit a motion or stand for a position at Conference.

Finally, NUS Delegates will need to attend conference and are encouraged to produce a short report to feedback to the student body on what happened.  This could be a written update, video or blog.
